About Jen

A lifelong student of the piano, Jen began lessons at age six and continues to hone her own practice today. Her passion for teaching ignited over two decades ago, as an undergraduate student studying both music and economics at Trinity University, in San Antonio, Texas. There, Jen immersed herself in music studies as a dedicated student of piano and music history.

She performed two solo piano recitals and appeared on stage as a soloist, duet partner, vocal accompanist, wind ensemble keyboardist, and orchestra pit keyboardist. Jen graduated with honors in music for her thesis exploring Stravinsky’s opera-oratorio, Oedipus Rex. During this time Jen began teaching her first piano students and earned a credential as a Yamaha Music Education System teacher, leading group classes and private lessons at a local Yamaha music school.

A decade later and missing her place in the music field, Jen reoriented her career, bringing the business chapter to a close and piano to the forefront. In order to get back up to speed on the advances in piano teaching, Jen began a graduate program at the University of Denver in piano pedagogy. Her studies there include academic classes in piano pedagogy research, current trends, group teaching techniques, elementary and intermediate methods, and topics in advanced repertoire. Through her teaching practicum, Jen has completed hundreds of hours of supervised teaching. She will complete her graduate studies in piano pedagogy in Spring 2024.

An active MTNA, CSMTA and DAMTA member, Jen currently maintains a private piano studio, teaches early childhood music classes, after-school piano and music enrichments, and volunteers her time in support of local music organizations whose missions align with hers. She keeps a daily practice of her own and prioritizes her own professional and musical development so that she can offer her students the very best in music education. Jen invites motivated students of all ages and abilities to reach out for more information about her studio and teaching.
